It's been a while....

Well here I am, trying to motivate myself to be better at this thing....life's been kinda crazy lately, with moving, and unpacking, and jobhunting, and taking care of our new little family addition.....so I'll try to fill everyone in quickly on the last few months in the life of the Shumakers.

I took my dental hygiene boards on June 18 and 19th, and passed with flying colors.

Todd received the transfer from Costco to move to Pocatello, Idaho. Before I went out to Virginia on July 20, I started househunting, so that we could be closed on a house when the time came to move from Virginia to Idaho. I found a cute little house with an incredible backyard (pictures to come soon) and Todd and I made an offer on the house. Todd had only seen pictures of the house. While we were just puttin in the time for the house to close, Todd, Gavin, and I spent time with Todd's wonderful family, and then we packed up and made the long cross country drive.
Gavin loves the new house, and still refers to the house in Pocatello as his "new house" and the old house in Idaho Falls as "Gavin's house". It's pretty cute.

The Eastern Idaho State Fair is always something that I love, and Costco had a table at the fair to promote club membership, so Todd chose to put in some time on Labor Day. Gavin and I met him later that day at the fair, and we mostly hid underneath the tent because the weather was terrible...rainy and cold. Once it died down a little, we braved the storm and walked around, and ate the yummy fair food. Gavin got his face painted like Spiderman and thought that was the coolest thing ever.

We decided to walk through the small petting zoo at the fair, so that Gavin could feed the miniature goats (I tried to get a picture, but those silly goats wouldn't hold still!) In the center of the petting zoo, one of the local pet store's had several cages with puppies. Well...I latched onto one and had a hard time putting her down....and we came home with her. Temporary lapse in my better judgement, but we love her anyways. It took Todd and I about three days to finally come up with a name for her...Shelby. She was a cute little spunky puppy who earned the nickname "feister meister" pretty quickly. One week after we'd gotten her, symptoms of parvovirus showed up, and we had a really sick little puppy on our hands. Parvo is an incredibly contagious disease only transmitted from canine to canine, and what it does to little puppies is absolutely horrific, not to mention a lot of puppies don't make it. It was very hard watching Shelby waste away and lose all her baby fat, wondering if she was going to live long enough to get through the course of the virus. But, because we'd caught it early, and made several trips to the vet, Shelby came through it and you'd never know she was sick.

Gavin started preschool and LOVES it. Although he's usually the one who gets the toys taken away by other children, or the one who gets hit in the head by toys from other children, he's doing well, and learning his numbers, and comes home singing cute little songs.

He never ceases to amaze me with the things he does. He's also potty trained! He finally decided he was done with diapers while we were on the trip from Virginia, at Applebees, of all places!

After distributing somewhere around 30-40 resumes', I finally found a job as a hygienist. It's part time with an awesome dentist. I technically haven't started yet, next Tuesday will be my first day, but I'm very excited.

Todd is really liking the area, and the new store, as well as his new warehouse manager. He's been incredibly busy, Gavin and I don't see a whole lot of him, since he's been in charge of interviewing and helping with training of the new employees. Things probably won't slow down for him until the store opens on October 23, and we're hoping he'll get some breathing time for a few weeks at least before the Holiday season picks up.

I'm trying to figure out how to put up a slideshow so I can show everyone the cute picturs, but since I'm still learning all of this blog stuff, please bear with me....
